Need Some Time To Rejuvenate? Try A Trek!

March 31, 2016

Spring is here! The weather's been really kind over the past week or so and it feels almost impossible for me to stay indoors. So, when a friend asked if we would like to go on a trek, just a two mile trail, not too much, she said. I wanted to go!

But then, I figured it had been ages since I went on one and I wasn't sure if my body (which most definitely needs such workouts) could handle it, move fast, and really keep up! Also, I wasn't sure if father and daughter would be keen on it or perhaps it would be wise to consider taking my 4-year-old along!

[pullquote] Let's face it, most moms like me find it difficult, if not impossible to 'not be' in mommy mode.[/pullquote]

However, if I couldn't make it, how could I handle dragging her along? And even if we could manage, my mommy brain switch would be 'on' all the time. Well...no point then huh! Let's face it, most moms like me find it difficult, if not impossible to 'not be' in mommy mode. We are wired that way! So what do we do when we need such a break from the routine?

We ask daddy to take over! And that is what I did.

[pullquote]And frankly speaking, I felt I needed or rather deserved a break from mommy duty![/pullquote]

Well, I just didn't want to deny myself some outdoor fun, and if that meant leaving father and daughter at home on a Sunday, to do whatever it is that they wanted to do, well so be it ! And frankly speaking, I felt I needed or rather deserved a break from mommy duty!

And so I went on a trek after almost a decade!

And it felt really good. It gave me some much-needed adult/alone time and helped me recharge and it did serve as a full body workout!

[pullquote]My daughter did come and tell me "Appa really took very good care of me"! So there you go, daddy did pass with flying colors![/pullquote]

My daughter did come and tell me "Appa really took very good care of me"! So there you go, daddy did pass with flying colors! But above all it helped father and daughter bond, without mom being around!

So, to all you full-time moms out there, do try to take some such breaks once in a while. It helps not just you, but all the parties concerned, get a break from each other :)

That said, I was wondering if may be we should do a 'family trek' the next time around. It will be a different experience I'm sure!

I read somewhere "When hiking with kids, let them lead"! So if you are an outdoor person, do you hike and trek with your kids? If so, do you have any tips for when hiking with kids? Do share them with us!
